A Safe Pair of Hands

Nov 24. 2016

We fully appreciate that entrusting your valuable possessions with a remover can be difficult and that it’s important to know that you have enlisted a ‘safe pair of hands’ in a removals company.

There are some steps you can take to ensure your goods will be well cared for. Choosing to move with an accredited member of the British Association of Removers (BAR), who work to a regulated Code of Conduct is key to ensuring your personnel effects are well cared for. Furthermore, moving with a BAR member means your prepayment and move are protected by a financial bond, in the unlikelihood something should happen to your chosen remover during your move it will still be completed by another BAR member and your money will be safe.

It is also important to remember that the BAR offer training courses to ensure all removals operatives are professionally trained in loading and packing your items ready for transport, a BAR company will have the best trucks and equipment for your move and will also use the correct protective materials.

Furthermore, an experienced moves estimator will come to your home and assess the personal items and furniture you have, as well as discuss with you your packing requirements. For example, you may have a lot of fragile items that will need protective packing or some heavier specialist items which may need some special lifting equipment. If you are not ready to take all of your items it may be worth discussing storage options with them, whether that be containerised or self-access storage. Based on this sort of information, the estimator will then be able to coordinate your move to your personalised requirements.

Your mover should be able to provide you with insurance to cover your goods during your move. As we all know, accidents can happen, but with the correct insurance you should be covered for any damage on items that have been professionally packed. You shouldn’t be charged much more for larger or fragile items, but if you have an item of interest such as very valuable paintings, then a certificate of valuation may be needed for your insurance.
