As Burke Bros Moving Group passes its 35 years of trading, some key members of our workforce will have collectively accumulated more than 150 years of experience. As a home and international removals company, with head office based in Wolverhampton we have accrued a remarkable wealth of knowledge and experience through the long standing service of several key members of our staff.
The company started its life over 35 years ago in Fordhouses, then moved to a small unit in Fallings Park, Park Lane Industrial Estate after Gary and Chris Burke started out with £800 to get the business running. Both Directors have headed the business for the past 35 years enabling it to grow into one of the most reputable, award winning international and UK domestic and corporate moving organisations in the UK, moving and shipping thousands of families and business every year throughout the UK and worldwide.
During the years of operation, we have employed a number of staff who have served decades with us. None more so than our Operations Controller, Dave Colley who started his career at Burke Bros Moving Group 27 years ago as an apprentice. He is now a real linchpin in the company and over-sees the complex logistics and scheduling of removals, controls the removals team and the running of the warehouse.
Sales Manager, Ben Hingley joined the organisation to head up the sales team and has become a real mainstay at many of the highest profile emigration and relocation exhibitions and shows across the UK for the last 25 years and is very well known in Wolverhampton.
Darren Hayward, currently our Foreman, has certainly clocked up a number of years with the company. Starting as a porter at 19 years of age, Darren has now had 32 years of experience in the industry. Being responsible for co-ordinating large business moves and liaising with customers on moving day; Darren leads the team to ensure the moves are smooth and well-co-ordinated.
With so many decades of experience in the industry, Burke Bros now find that 65% of their work is due to repeat business and referrals. We often move generations of the same families, as Gary Burke, Managing Director explains: “We find time and again that families will use and are loyal to the company. There have been numerous occasions when we have moved four generations of the same family. With a collective of more than 150 years’ experience amongst the longer serving members of staff alone, we have many other loyal members of staff following through. We aren’t complacent though; we continue investing in the best of equipment and the best of young, up and coming talent to ensure we continue finding loyal and committed people.”
