Moving to Sydney, Australia

Apr 21. 2017

We have moved countless families and individuals to all parts of Australia. The country’s largest city provides an appealing lifestyle for many expats; many benefit from the favourable climate, impressive artistic and cultural events and the range of work opportunities on offer. We’re never surprised that Sydney is consistently ranked highly as a prime destination in regular liveability surveys.

Sydney’s strong economy ensures there is a range of work opportunities particularly in the professional services, manufacturing, education and tourism. The Central Business District is one of the most prominent areas for jobs. The north of the CBD tends to be home to the financial and legal industries and the south hosts predominantly education/research institutions and the creative industries. The pharmaceutical and biomedical industries tend to be found in a large area of the outskirts of the CBD.

Sydney offers a range of both government run and private schools with enrolment into state schools operating with a similar ‘catchment’ system as in the UK. Costs of private schools vary extensively and many have a waiting list.

In terms of choosing a property in the city; there’s certainly no shortage of choice with over 500 suburbs to choose from. However, Sydney’s property prices are not cheap. Considering the abundance of choice it is worth doing plenty of research as each suburb offers its own advantages. Eastern suburbs have the benefit of being home to some of the most famous beaches; like Bondi beach and are home to the best nightlife. The inner west suburbs are well known for their more bohemian vibe, whereas the northern suburbs are well known to have a good selection of private schools.
