The importance of Insurance when moving to France

Oct 10. 2014

Step 4 – Getting Insurance

One of the main issues people have when moving abroad is that their valuables are not properly protected if something should go wrong.  Customers need to ensure that they have the correct marine insurance in place. Be aware that some insurance products on offer, such as liability insurance, are not necessarily the correct insurance and can leave you disadvantaged. You can also enquire with the moving company the level of training their staff undertake, ask if they provide in house and external training courses to ensure their employees are professionally trained. As you are moving to France and overseas check to see if they are members of the BAR Overseas Group and FIDI, and even better do they hold ISO registration?

However, things can still go wrong, so just in case it is highly advisable to take out sufficient insurance cover for your entire move. For international moving, it is recommended you take out a comprehensive door to door cover. Also, make certain you are covered for both your goods, as well as the cost of the shipment itself.
