What makes a successful office move?

Mar 10. 2016

Part 1

You are moving office and are now thinking about all of the factors you need for it to be successful. The main issue of importance is relocating your business as effectively and efficiently as possible so you can begin operating again and making a profit. You may have a small office or a large one but the same key factors remain, your move is like a project and once it has been broken down in to smaller tasks it is easily manageable. Keep reading to find out more tips on how to make your business move a success.

1) Plan early
The key to making any office move a success is the correct organisation and planning as early as possible. Once you have decided you are going to move you need to consider, who will be involved in the move, where you are moving to, what you are bringing with you, when do you plan to be back to work by etc. This may seem daunting but when broken down it is easy to complete your move in steps. If you are finding that you are having to relocate quickly due to unforeseen circumstances with your tenancy agreement for example then it may be advisable to find professionals early on to help you organise your move as quickly as possible, they will have helped many other businesses and can advise you on what you need to do.

2) Determine a budget
Moving business is always going to have some form of associated costs, whether you try and handle the move yourself or not. Putting a budget together before the move and factoring in unexpected expenses will help you stick to budget and will stop costs spiralling out of control. Consider things such as rental fees for new premises, increases in business rates, new furniture or equipment, having new IT or connections installed, redecorating costs and of course hiring someone to help you move. Get a few quotes from office moving companies to help you get a price for the move and the services you may require, this will help you to budget.

3) Declutter your office
One of the main reasons you may be moving your premises is because you have undergone a business expansion and need more room. So you may want to consider exactly what furniture, fittings, IT equipment and machinery you wish to take with you. Doing this will also allow you to determine if you need any new equipment or furniture for your new office. If there are items you don’t need on hand, such as excess stock, documents or archives you may want to think about using a secure storage facility.

4) Get a professional mover
Now you know what you are moving, and have started to get yourself organised you need to get a few quotes from professional office moving companies. An experienced estimator should come to look at your office and work with you to create a tailored moving plan suited to your needs. They will have trained operatives and specialist moving equipment to ensure everything is packed, loaded and transported safely and efficiently. Once you have your goods at your new premises they will even unload your furniture to your layout plan if you so wish. They will ensure everything goes to schedule to get you back working to your specified date.
