How to Plan an Industrial Move

Jan 04. 2023

All commercial relocations take detailed planning to ensure that they’re executed properly. An ‘industrial relocation’ however, often needs more expertise and a more tailored service than the average office move. Minimising downtime to ensure business continuity is always important in a commercial move. When it comes to moving hospitals, laboratories and factories etc, the sensitive, valuable and often heavy equipment requires expert movers and special lifting equipment.

Planning an industrial move
Planning is really important, and a professional removals company who perform business moves will be able to meet with you to create an in-depth plan for the move and ensure the mover fully understands exactly how to meet your requirements. Ultimately, the mover should save you time and inconvenience and free up your employee’s time to concentrate on the day to day management of the business.

To achieve this, they’ll need to know the detail of what equipment needs moving and where to, time frames and whether it is a multi-phased move, whether you need storage and if you need any ancillary services such as shredding, recycling or IT disposal. From this information they can determine such things as; how many vehicles to allocate, how many removal crew members and assembly installers are needed, how much high specification materials will be needed for protection of equipment during transit and what lifting equipment is needed etc. Access to the premises and to the location you’re moving to will also need to be factored in. This process will need to start well in advance of the move itself. This could be several months in advance.

Moving equipment
The nature of the equipment being moved needs to be taken into account. For example, some laboratory equipment will be highly sensitive and need careful handling and may also need to be kept in temperature regulated conditions. There may also be hazardous materials. Choose a removals company that have experience of performing these types of moves.

Sustainable moves
As increasing importance is placed on sustainability, don’t forget to consider the environmental impact of the relocation. Opt for a removals company that factor in environmental considerations into their operations to ensure that they can approach your move with the same environmental awareness.
