International moving: What to expect on moving day

Feb 16. 2016

The big day has arrived and you are all ready for your international move! Moving overseas can be daunting and preparing for moving day to ship all of your household goods and personal effects overseas may seem daunting, but with the right international remover, you have no need to worry!

We know packing can be an emotional time and leaving your home to move abroad will be tough, that is why we suggest young children are left with a friend or relative during the main part of moving day, for health and safety reasons as the removals crew will want to work as efficiently as possible.

On the day of the move, an experienced crew should arrive at your residence with a container or moving trailer with all of the necessary packing equipment and materials needed to complete your move.
Although you may have chosen to pack some things yourselves, it is essential your fragile items, specialist or larger pieces of furniture are all professionally export wrapped and packed suitable for shipment and protected during transit. You items should wrap all furniture using international grade padding. All glasses, dishware, china, stemware, ceramics, porcelain, pictures, mirrors, etc. will all be wrapped in paper and packed into special protective cartons.

Your international remover should have trained and skilled professional packers, who will have the experience in handling your goods with great care whilst disassembling furnishings, packing, wrapping and loading your goods in the correct manor to protect them against any damage that could occur during international transport.

Your international moving company should create an inventory of every item that has been loaded on to your container ready for shipments. Numbers will be assigned to each item or carton and all respectivenumbers will be recorded on the inventory list. You should be given a copy of the inventory which you can use at your new residence to ensure everything has been delivered correctly to your new home.

Many movers will bring the lift vans or container to your residence and will load them there. This allows you to see first-hand the skilled packing that is required to load the contents strategically in as tightly as possible. This is to reduce any movement within the container which is what can cause the most damage during transit. Unless it is not possible, containers will be loaded at your residence.

After your contents have been fully loaded your container will be shut and sealed and will not be opened until they reach your new residence in your destination country. Unless they have to be opened for a formal customs examination, which any containers may be subject too.
