International Removals: Transportation Methods

Once your items have been professionally wrapped and packed your mover will arrange be loaded ready for transportation to your destination country, this may be by air, sea or road.
You move will arrange all of the paperwork and customs documentation needed and will be able to advise you on what household goods and personal effects you are able to take and any customs restrictions you may face based on your destination country.

By air

Transporting your household goods by air is a useful option if you need or prefer a shorter transit time. It is faster than shipping by sea however it is more suitable for smaller shipments or essential items which may be needed immediately when arriving at the destination.
However, it is generally move expensive to send your items by air than sea. It may sometimes be cost effective for larger shipments when the destination is remote from a sea port. This is due to the fuel cost expenses from the airlines and any additional expenses incurred from the labour involved in preparing the consignment for shipment by air as they have high security regulations.

By sea

Shipping by sea is the common method of transportation and can be the most cost effective. You will have different options for sending your goods by sea depending upon your budget and the volume of goods you wish to send.
Full Load Container (FCL) – this is your own private or sole use container, exclusively for your items, this can either be a 20ft or 40ft container dependent upon the amount of goods you require to be shipped. For an idea, the contents of a three bedroom house will usually fit in to a 20ft container.
Groupage / Share Container – this is where you share a container and only pay for the space you are using within a container, this is useful if you only have a selected amount of items you are bringing and do not require a full container.
Baggage – this is where you only have a single or few items or suitcases to be sent to your destination country.

By road

Your items will be loaded on to international removal vehicles and driven on road, to your destination country ready for clearance at their borders or ports if arriving by ferry.

Arrival

Once your items have arrived in your destination country if you are using a move with a door to door service. After your items have been customers cleared, they will be delivered to your new residence. A professional team should be able to unload, unpack and redress your home with ease. Allowing you to settle in to your new lives as soon as possible.
