Moving a family pet abroad requires considerable thought and planning to ensure full compliance to the destination country’s regulations, to ensure the welfare of the animal involved and to avoid complications in the process.
There are a number of companies who will transport a pet for you and you may opt to use one of these companies to co-ordinate this for you from the point of administration all the way through the process. Do careful research into these companies, ensure they are highly reputable and have industry accreditations. A good point of reference for recommendations in this area would be an international moving company. A reputable and professional removal company should be able to advise you on the best pet shipping companies to contact.
As an indication of some of the requirements of the movement of pets from the UK to Cyprus, we have put together some of the general points to factor in when planning the movement of your family pet(s) to Cyprus:
Microchipping
Dogs and cats entering Cyprus are required to be microchipped (the micro-chip must comply with ISO standards 11784 and 11785.) In cases were the microchip doesn’t conform, the owner must provide the necessary means for reading the pets microchip.
Vaccinations
All dogs and cats entering Cyprus have to be vaccinated against rabies. The vaccine can only be administered once the pet is over 12 weeks old.
Rabies Antibody Titre Test
It is necessary for a rabies antibody titration test to be carried out in a laboratory approved by the EU; an OIE approved lab. The blood ample must be at least 30 days after the vaccination was administered and will only be valid 3 months after the test was taken.
Health Certificate
All animals entering Cyprus must have an official health certificate. The document is valid for 10 days from the date it is signed by a vet.
