Moving to Canada; Young Professionals
The ‘Young Professionals’ category of work permit is part of the ‘International Experience Canada (IEC) which provides a pathway for people aged 18-35 from over 20 countries to live and work in Canada.
This is valid for a period of up to two years (there are variations between the home country of the participant) and is intended to provide an opportunity for professional development within Canada. Candidates are required to have a valid job offer in Canada before they arrive and will need to be prepared to work for the same employer in the same locations during the entire time that they remain in Canada on the permit.
As with all permits there is a list of requirements candidates must meet. For an initial indication of the eligibility requirements for the IEC Young Professionals work permit, see the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. The online questionnaire ‘Come to Canada’ will give further indications.
If you meet these requirements, candidates must then create a profile adopt to be entered into the IEC Young Professionals pool for their respective country. The IRCC will then issue an ‘invitation to apply’ to randomly selected applicants from the pool. Applicants wishing to pursue the application, must then upload all required documentation and make payment for the IEC participation fee. There is also a fee for employers. Once all of this is submitted, candidates will be able to submit their application. The processing of this takes around eight weeks on average.
