Moving to New Zealand: Changes to Biosecurity Quarantine
If you are moving to New Zealand we would like to inform you of the changes being implemented in a new Biosecurity Quarantine process from the 1st June 2015. These changes will affect all shipments of Household Goods and Personal Effects. These include items that enter New Zealand in Full Container Loads, Groupage Containers, Less than Container Loads or those that arrive via Airfreight in New Zealand.
The key change is that all household goods and personal effects are no longer delivered from being received at the port or airport directly to the customers’ new residence or into store. The new process will now involve devanning of the goods into a Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) approved transitional facility or warehouse. This is so the MPI can inspect and conduct Biosecurity and Quarantine inspections on any of the items. Once the inspection has been completed the items will be reloaded for delivery to the customers’ premises.
These new regulations means the process involves an additional step in the delivery process in New Zealand, which will affect the overall cost and timescales for delivery of shipments when making the move to New Zealand.
