Moving to: Perth
Located on the South West coast of Australia, Perth has a population of around two million. As the largest city and capital of the Australian state of Western Australia, Perth is the fourth most populated city in Australia.
It remains popular with British expats due to the clean, green and spacious feel of the area and due to the multitude of lifestyle benefits on offer. In particular, a trip 10 kilometres west from the city will bring you face to face with some of the most appealing beaches surrounding the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, residents benefit from a Mediterranean climate. Expats tend to gravitate towards settling in the northern suburbs.
Although the city is somewhat isolated form other cities in Australia, there is also a well-developed highway system and Perth’s public transport system is of a good standard and is particularly useful for travel in and out of the city centre. Equally, Perth has undergone investment in recent years in, for example, the Elizabeth Quay waterfront development. Many restaurants and bars have opened up in the area and the city has a thriving hospitality sector.
Notably, the area has a growing resources industry due to its supplying of raw materials to Asian economies, despite the mining industry’s decline in the area. According to recent reports, Perth residents in skilled occupations also earn some of the highest incomes across Australia.
When it comes to looking for property, there are also a myriad of new housing developments underway, particularly in the suburbs and a notable number of new apartment blocks on offer.
