New ‘Express Entry’ system for skilled overseas workers moving to Canada
Relocating to Canada can almost seem impossible for some. But In January 2015, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) are launching a new electronic application management system called Express Entry as a faster and more effective way to welcome skilled immigrants. If you are a skilled worker, moving to Canada may become easier as overseas applicants in the Federal Skilled Worker Programme, Federal Skilled Trades Programme, Canadian Experience Class and a portion of the Provincial Nominee Programme will be placed into a universal pool from which employees can choose qualified candidates.
Candidates will still have to meet criteria from one of the federal immigration programmes but the aim is to be more specific in matching their skills with the most suitable job. Employers will now be able to consider new candidates who meet their needs when they cannot find a Canadian or permanent resident for the job. The government’s new and improved Job Bank should allow better matches between Canadian employers and those wanting to move to Canada through Express Entry. If you are successful and receive a qualifying job offer from a Canadian employer or nomination under the Provincial Nominee Programme they will be invited to apply for permanent residence.
