Moving  To New Zealand?

One of our experienced estimators will visit you in your home so we can accurately calculate the volume you wish to take and any of your packing requirements. Calculating the correct volume is key to a realistic quotation and the estimator can offer you some invaluable advice in preparation for your move.

  • All of our removals men are trained overseas packers and will ensure your goods are safely packed. Other considerations are tailor made crates for items such as pianos, clocks and glass cabinets etc. Your items are then ready to be loaded on to the shipping container or can be put in to storage for any amount of time you require.
  • As you are shipping your personal effects to New Zealand you may require a full 20t, 40t container, we also offer part-loads or groupage containers, where you only pay for the space your possessions take up within a container.
  • We will arrive at your home to pack and wrap your items ready for shipment over a two to three day period with the container being loaded on the last day and the inventory checked, ready for the container to be locked, sealed and driven to the UK port.
  • We offer Marine Insurance on all of our international moves that is sufficient to cover your entire move, including cover for the cost of your goods and the cost of the shipment itself, on all effects, packed by Burke Bros.
  • Your items can take on average between 7 to 11 weeks to be shipped for a full container and 8 to 12 weeks on a groupage container. Times can also vary depending on the location of the port in New Zealand they are going to.
  • Upon arrival in New Zealand, one of our trusted agents will then take care of your goods and move. AII goods entering New Zealand must comply with strict Bio-security regulations and the MAP Bio- Security New Zealand (MAFBN) is responsible for protecting natural resources, plants, animals and people of New Zealand from the introduction of pests and diseases.

Documents needed:

There are several documents that you will need to ship your items to New Zealand, they include – Unaccompanied Personal Baggage Declaration N208218, MPI Supplementary Declaration, original or certified passport visa copies for all family members.

Clearing Customs & Quarantine Procedures:

MAF Bio-security New Zealand (MAFBNZ) along with New Zealand Customs Service and the department of immigration have specific requirements for people moving personal effects/household possessions to New Zealand. An inspector will assess documentation presented to MAFBNZ for possible risk goods and an inspection of your personal effects may be required. lithe shipment is a full sea container load of an inspection is mandatory and will be carried out by an Accredited Person or MAFBNZ inspector at our agent’s depot and may take between 10 to 14 days. Additional charges may be made by MAFBNZ and will be billed separately.

Delivery to your new home:

Once your items have been cleared our agent’s operations department will arrange a mutually suitable day for delivery to your new home, or your shipment can be placed in to secure storage facilities. Their services should include full unwrapping of all furniture items. reassembly of items that require non-specialist attention such as beds, dressers and bookcases etc. Other services may be available at an additional cost.

Prohibited items:

  • Canned/dried meat. spices. honey. dairy, egg.
  • Flick-knives, swordsticks, replica firearms and knuckledusters.
  • Controlled drugs, ornamental pipes such as Sheesha or Hookah.
  • Pornographic material.
  • Endangered wildlife products must have a CITES export permit issued by appropriate authority from the country of origin.

Restricted Items:

  • New or used items may attract duty / GST tax. as when belonging to persons who do not meet the qualifying criteria.
  • Alcohol can be imported duty free by persons who qualify and with a full list of type/size/proof/volume documents proof of previous ownership.
  • Tobacco will attract duty charges.
  • Radio transmitting equipment that does not comply with N2 regulations.
  • Medicines should be original and with accompanying doctors prescriptions.
  • Firearms and ammunition are strictly controlled and a Police Import Permit is required: www.pollce.gov.nz
  • Items of Specific MPI Interest: foodstuffs of any kind, biological specimens, garden & outdoor sports equipment, vacuum cleaners, untreated raw timbers or wood, bamboo, cane and rattan.

Electrical Items:

Electrical items should generally work on the New Zealand, though its worth checking with the manufacturer if you have concerns.

Televisions:

Most modern UK televisions will work in New Zealand as the broadcast systems in UK and New Zealand are both PAL-based. However, as they are differing versions any UK TV will need to be connected to the NZ equivalent of a UK Digital Satellite Cable receiver.

Pets:

Pets are permitted entry into NZ. but will be subject to the following:

  • Rabies Vaccinations, HNATT {Rabies Antibody Titre Test). Quarantine.
  • Import Permit. DEFRA Export Health Certificate. The logistics of moving a pet are complex, please ask us for a recommendation for an approved specialist in this area.

Motor Vehicles

All vehicles being imported to New Zealand are subject to New Zealand design, age and emission regulations it is critical the requirements are met before considering shipping to New Zealand. All motorised vehicles are potentially included-cars, motorbikes. ride-on mowers, children’s motorised scooters. farm equipment and battery operated push bikes.
