The French Life: Ways to Integrate

Making the move abroad is always a big step and there are several factors that will determine how successful the move is. Beyond calling on the services of a reputable and experienced removals company to take care of the movement of your household effects, making the move to the continent involves a considerable cultural change and it’s important to take steps to try and integrate into new surroundings and way of life.

We’ve put together a few ideas for ways to best integrate into the French life and have the best chance of making a success of the new life.

Break the Language Barrier

One of the most important and useful steps to take is to learn the language. Investing in French language lessons is really worthwhile. Whether it’s an online course, one to one tuition or a classroom based course; making an effort to learn the language will make a big difference to your experience of the country.

Join the Club
If you have a particular hobby or enjoy a certain sport, it’s worth enquiring as to whether there are any clubs in your local area for these same interests. Whether it’s cycling or crafting; meeting people with the same interests is a good way to make friends.

Back to School
If you have children moving to France with you; there will be opportunities to become involved in the school activities and to become integrated into the local community that way. There are inevitably opportunities to join as a ‘parents’ representative’ or to join the school’s fundraising committee.

Make it a Date
Make a point of attending local events and key dates in the communities’ calendar. If you can volunteer to help at these events this is even better received.

To ensure that your French life gets off to the best possible start, opt for a professional removal company with experience of co-ordinating moves into and out of the country. Take a look at our dedicated webpage on our removals services to France.
