Burke Bros Moving Group has decades of moving and relocation experience to Switzerland and throughout Europe. We operate regular services to and from Switzerland.

Services

Our European removals service involves the movement of your possessions ‘door to door’ and can include a packing service. Fragile items are packed using packing paper, tissue, bubble wrap or polychips. Export-strength cartons in various sizes are used to accommodate books and heavy items. Special linen cartons are used as hanging garment carriers. Furniture is wrapped with padding and transit blankets. Items can also be crated.

Customs Clearance

Office and House removals from the UK to Switzerland involves specific customs clearance requirements, especially considering that Switzerland is not a member of the European Union. Here’s a detailed guide on what you need to know for customs clearance when relocating to Switzerland from the UK:

1. Personal Belongings and Household Goods

  • Inventory List: You must provide a detailed, itemized inventory of all goods being moved, written in English, German, French, or Italian. This list should include descriptions, quantities, and, if applicable, the value of each item.
  • Residence Permit or Visa: Proof of your permission to reside in Switzerland, such as a residence permit (Permit B or C) or a long-stay visa, is required for customs clearance.
  • Registration Form 18.44: This is a Swiss customs form that declares your household goods for duty-free importation. It serves as a declaration of your relocation and includes your personal details and a declaration that the goods have been in your use and possession for at least six months and are intended for continued use in Switzerland.
  • Duty-Free Import: Household goods and personal effects can be imported duty-free if they have been used for at least six months prior to the move and are intended for personal use.

2. Vehicles

  • Importation of Vehicles: Vehicles may be imported duty-free under similar conditions to household goods if they have been in your possession and used for at least six months before the move. You will need the vehicle registration documents, purchase invoice, and proof of insurance.
  • Technical Inspection: Vehicles may need to pass a technical inspection to ensure they meet Swiss standards, especially regarding emissions and safety.
  • Driving License: You may use your UK driving license in Switzerland temporarily but will need to exchange it for a Swiss license within a year of residency.

3. Restricted and Prohibited Items

  • Switzerland has specific regulations regarding the import of certain items like firearms, medications, plants, and animal products. It is crucial to check the latest regulations and possibly obtain necessary permits or undergo inspections.

4. Pets

  • Pets require a microchip, rabies vaccination, and a pet passport or an animal health certificate for entry into Switzerland. Depending on the species, additional tests or treatments might be necessary.

Our European department offers complete step-by-step support to complete the necessary Swiss customs documents.

Part Load Removals to Switzerland

Part loads to Switzerland offer a cost-effective solution for those with fewer belongings to transport. This service allows your items to share space in a removal vehicle with others’ goods, reducing costs. It’s ideal for small moves or when you’re flexible on delivery times.

Dedicated Service to Switzerland

Dedicated removals to Switzerland provide a personalised service where the entire removal vehicle is reserved for your belongings. This option suits larger moves or when you need your items delivered on a specific date. It offers direct transportation from your current residence to your new home in Switzerland, ensuring a quicker and more tailored moving experience.

The Process

One of our experienced estimators will visit your home to determine the volume of goods that will be making the trip to Switzerland, as well as your packing requirements. Our representative will discuss with you how the moving process works, from the collection stage in the UK right through to delivery to your new residence in Switzerland. We will give you a realistic quote, without obligation, based on a first class high quality service.

We can move you to any location in Switzerland including the main locations: Geneva, Bern, Zurich, Basel, Lausanne, Montreux and Thun-Koniz.

Storage

If your home contents have to come into store for weeks or months during the process of relocating to Switzerland, Burke Bros Moving Group have 50,000 sq.ft of storage facilities and offer two options: containerised storage and self-access storage at our head office in Wolverhampton. We can also arrange storage in Switzerland if this is required.
