Our Green Policy
Environmental issues
Burke Bros Moving Group are the first moving company, globally to be PAS2060 certified Carbon Neutral. We have measured and offset all carbon emissions across Scope 1, 2 and all 15 categories in Scope 3.
We have directed a strategy to improve our environmental credentials and take responsibility for our emissions as we work towards Net Zero by 2040. We have invested in ensuring that all the emissions associated with our business activity have been calculated to the GHG (Green House Gas) Protocol and offset through the purchase of verified United Nations Carbon Credits. This not only neutralises our emissions but also demonstrates positive humanitarian benefits to the less privileged in our world.
With our industry body, the British Association of Removers, having confirmed we are the first in our industry in the UK and FIDI (the global alliance of quality-certified international moving and relocation companies) in Brussels confirming we are the first moving company globally to have been certified PAS2060 Carbon Neutral, we are extremely proud to have achieved this milestone and to have spearheaded the developments in this area for our sector.
As part of our certification we have raised £1,511 and nominated The Gorilla Organization as the recipient; donating £1 for every tonne of CO2 emissions we have offset. The Gorilla Organisation supports the anti-poaching patrols created by the pioneering primatologist Dr Dian Fossey. Nowadays, as well as helping to safeguard Africa’s critically endangered gorillas, the charity’s projects have transformed the lives of some of Africa’s poorest communities. We have made our pledge to the SME Climate Commitment, recognised by the United Nations ‘Race to Zero’ campaign, to take action against the threat that climate change poses to the environment, society and the economy.
The SME Climate Hub is an initiative founded by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, the We Mean Business coalition and the UNFCCC Race to Zero campaign, with the aim of supporting small and medium-sized businesses to build business resilience.
We have also joined an initiative dedicated to decarbonising Black Country businesses to become carbon neutral, ‘Turning the Black Country Green’ to help drive the UK’s second industrial revolution, the green revolution.
Our materials waste and recycling solutions have already been working with many customers and we are keen to continue this alliance with businesses and their recycling needs.
Our commitment to the environment has also been recognised with two Juan Peralta Ecological award wins from the Pan American International Movers Association (PAIMA) for having maintained a record of recycling 100% of reusable materials without any waste going to landfill and for the best contribution from a moving company on global environmental issues.
