Preparing for the Arrival of the Removal Crew

Mar 14. 2024

If you’re gearing up for a big move, we have a few useful pointers on how you can prepare for the move in the weeks and days running up to the removal crew arriving.

If you’ve opted for a full packing service with your removal company, this will greatly reduce the time and effort spent preparing for the move. The experts will wrap fragile items for you and box up your belongings appropriately. If you’re packing for yourself, you’ll need to allow adequate time to prepare. Here are a few things to remember before moving day:

Self-assembly furniture: If you have self-assembly furniture, that needs to be dismantled before it can be moved, you will need to dismantle this yourself. If you would like this to be performed by the removal crew, you’ll need to arrange this with the removal company prior to the move, subject to an additional charge.

Fridges and freezers: These need to be thoroughly defrosted and dry before the crew arrive on moving day. Cookers need to be disconnected (by approved CORGI agents for gas cookers) and washing machines drained.

Attics and Lofts: If there are items packed into your loft space, you’ll need to bring down any items stored there and have them ready in another room ready for transportation.

Fixtures and Fittings: You’ll need to take down any fixtures, fittings and window dressings (curtains and blinds) that you’d like us to move for you. If you do require a hand with this, again this needs to be discussed with the removal company in advance and factored into the quote.

Packing: If you’ve opted to pack your effects yourself, ensure that everything is appropriately packed up and boxes are labelled prior to moving day. If you find that you do need extra help, contact your remover as they may be able to offer assistance, but they will need notice. Equally, it’s important to use quality packing supplies. Don’t hesitate to request a quotation for cartons and packing material if needed.

Arrange Parking: Bear in mind that the removal van(s) will need space outside both your current home and the property you’re moving to. If it’s necessary, notify your neighbours at both properties to avoid any possible inconveniences caused by our vehicles. Some properties may need parking permits to be arranged. Liaise with your removal company to ensure that this is organised in advance.

In the weeks and days leading to your move, it’s well worth being organised as this will make for a far smoother moving day and you’ll be able to sit back, relax, and let the removal company take the stress out of your move!
