As we continue to monitor the effects of the pandemic on the French property market, we note that we saw greatly increased demand for moves to France in the lead up to the Brexit deadline and in the first quarter of this year, we’re still running regular services to France as those that are determined to make the move, are still going.
The increased demand for more outside space, has also been evident in the French property market, with both existing residents of France and Brits looking to make the move to France both showing increased interest in properties in rural locations. Properties with access to outdoor space but within a commutable distance of a town or well-appointed village, are really getting a lot of attention. Another important factor in choosing property, appears to be fast internet speed as buyers are factoring in the need to work from home.
Consequently, rural properties that are coming on to the market are selling quickly and for higher prices; demand is exceeding supply. Furthermore, from the point of view of Brits looking to make the move, there is of course competition from those already resident in France who are pursuing these properties too.
The effects of the pandemic are far reaching, and it is still proving difficult to predict how effects on any property market will continue. It may be that as the vaccine roll-out continues, lockdowns are eased and elements of normality are gradually re-introduced, that the equilibrium between supply and demand will be restored a little.
